Wout (1958) is a self-taught painter. Since 1992 painting has become a serious activity in his life.
Through the years his work has developed from busy, overdone paintings into more serene and balanced pictures. With his work he tries to catch the beauty and at the same time the transistoriness of life. Beauty and transistoriness have gradually become the main themes in his work. The beauty in his pictures is symbolized by the human figure, especially the female, but lately also the male plays a bigger role. Often they are placed in desolate landscapes or classical environments with antique and oriental statues. On the latest paintings an almost monochrome background is sufficient enough to be the stage where emotions can be intensified. His playing with dark and light gives his work an intense atmosphere.
